A blog is “basically a journal that is available on the web” http://www.matisse.net/files/glossary.html. Educational blogs can be found at edublogs http://edublogs.org/directoryclass/?utm_expid=3915942-0.sTB70DfGTIKG85bY3mRpOQ.0&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fedublogs.org%2Fcommunity%2F.
Mrs Yollis’ Classroom Blog is for “third graders sharing and learning together”. The blog won the Best Class Edublog 2012 award, and is a blog created by a Year 3 class in the United States. Mrs Yollis has helpfully included a Wiki for teachers regarding “The Benefits of Blogging”.
The blog is well organised with headings to arrange the many information categories available on the blog, which include information for fellow teachers, parents, and students. The class has exciting activities paired with other schools across the world, such as the Mystery Skype call with an Australian classroom.
The blog encourages responsible blogging by instructing students on how to teach commenting skills (a worthwhile activity), privacy issues and important things to consider, such as time management.
